Although freelancers do contract jobs for companies and organizations, they are self-employed.

Freelancers go out and find employment themselves or join an agency that brings freelancers and clients together and serve as an intermediary to conduct business.

Freelancers are paid according to their industry, experience, skills, and location.

Freelancers charge by the hour, day, and a set rate or on a per-project basis.

Some freelancers use a value-based pricing method, where the client pays according to the perceived value of the job done.

Note that freelancers are not sole proprietors even though they are both 'self-employed.'

Sole proprietors are single business owners who run a particular business; freelancers, on the other hand, can run different jobs or projects at once.

The only exception is if the freelance contract restricts him/her to work for another organization, especially competitors, until the end of the project or the contract.

Difference between freelancers and traditional employees is in the responsibilities that come with jobs such as having control over work hours, billing clients, keeping track of time spent on projects, and paying their employment and business taxes.

Freelancers majorly work remotely and are not considered as employees by organizations they work for but as contractors.

After a lot of researching from a variety of companies, organizations, and some government agencies that hire freelancers, we could come up with the most common career fields that freelancers thrive in.

However, it is essential to note that freelancing is opened to almost all types of career fields, from short-term projects to long-term projects and also full-time projects, but mostly short.
